Air Quality Improvement and Fuels Reduction Project Funded by the US Forest Service!

The US Forest Service has awarded the Eastern Madera County Fire Safe Council two grants to begin funding the Air Quality Improvement and Fuels Reduction project also known as aquifer. Funding has been provided for crews to begin thinning as well as to begin preparation of the storage and chipping site at the former South Fork Sawmill provided by Madera County. Vining Enterprises is currently pursuing operation of the chipping manufacturing for the green waste facility.

North Fork Mono Rancheria Begins Work

The North Fork Mono Rancheria has begun the work of connecting fuel breaks through private land. The first phase involves Wyle Ranch property near Castle Peak. This facet of the AQUIFR project connects existing Forest Service fuel breaks across private property that lies between. The Rancheria is supplying contract labor in a partnership with the FSC and Forest Service. So far seven crew members are working full time on the Wyle property.

AQUIFER Project Nearly Completed

The Air Quality Improvement and Fuel Reduction Project of the Eastern Madera County Fire Safe Council is near completion. Under a grant from the US Forest Service almost three miles of fuel break across private property has been improved to Forest Service specs. This meets an important objective of the Forest Service to complete portions of the Ponderosa Fuel Break across private land. The project involved FSC employees, the North Fork Mono Rancheria, Hughes Tree Service, the CRCD and County at risk youth programs.

Youth crews assist with portions of the break on the Vanderburg property. Habitat is improved by opening up the land as indicated by these wild turkeys moving through the recently cleared areas.
